Constitutionnalité Crisis in Bangladesh, 29 September 2026, London
In this Substack article, Paulo Casaca examines what he describes as the “cleansing” of higher education in Bangladesh following the 2024 change of power, placing it in comparative perspective with historical campaigns to bring universities under ideological control. He highlights the interaction between youth mobilisation, Islamist influence, state institutions, and the exclusion of students and academics. The article argues that the distinctive feature of the Bangladeshi case is the scale of external involvement and the success of presenting these developments internationally as a democratic transformation.
